Just Keep Swimming (And Breathing!)

Family, this week has been something else! It has gone by so fast. It was transfers, and of no shock to us, Sister Curtis and I are staying together for another transfer. We're excited to see what happens and build upon what we already have here.

Ended up having to get a new bike. It was going to cost more to fix it than the bike was worth. BUT I got so lucky and the Elders knew of this bike that was for sale. Long story short, the bike was meant for me. It's just my size, very gently used, with shocks, and for the right price. At first I was really annoyed I was going to have to buy another bike, but then quickly realized that this was a tender mercy that Heavenly Father had not only helped my find a new one, but a better one. My new bike in combination with my new inhalers (gasp!) have been making the extreme amount of biking we do here much more pleasant. I am grateful, to say the least. And yes, I did have to go to the doctor this week and was prescribed 2 inhalers to use. I have officially become an asthmatic. I've probably minorly have been one for awhile though. I wonder why I didn't go to the doctors earlier... It makes cycling so much better! And, its only due to the insistence of a good ward member that I even went to get checked out. Anyways, enough about me, now about the investigators, which is what you really want to hear about!

T6 we've had absolute miracles with this week, just as we were starting to question how well he was really progressing. We went to see him and he'd read a verse which we had left him in 2 Nephi 29 about the Book of Mormon. As we asked him what he had taken from it, he said, "Well, I learned that God, Jesus Christ and the Holy Ghost are 3 separate personages.' I was floored. #1, that wasn't what the verse was about at all #2 we'd been praying for T6 to understand the Godhead for weeks!  I was going to correct him and tell him what he should have learned from reading this scripture, but very clearly had a thought come into my head. "He read the scriptures, he received revelation, the revelation you have been praying for him to receive, don't correct him!" This was an important lesson for me to learn! Its not specifically the exact words you read, its that reading the scriptures opens the doors to receiving revelation!! He also decided this week that that word of wisdom could have some truth to it, and that he has been being mislead by substance use throughout his whole life, that they have been fogging his mind and he wants to stop. HOORAY!

Y is a university student from China, and we just love him!! He has SO much real intent; it constantly amazes me! When we teach him, its easy to tell that he absorbs everything like a sponge and that he understands it by the questions he asks. He recognizes that life is more than just getting riches etc. He wants to embrace the deeper meaning of life. It's amazing!! HE's amazing!

P3 is doing really well too, and I am constantly amazed by his faith and his understanding. We go into more depth in the lessons we're teaching P3 because that's what he needs. We taught him 3 times this week and we were amazed. He asks such good questions. I honestly can't say enough good things about him!

S5 is doing ok. We are slowly and surely working with her. We had a really cool lesson on Saturday where we talked about how to read the scriptures and how they can answer our questions. Her question? How to be happy and successful. The answer? 2 Nephi 5. There are 6 steps of things they did to live 'after the manner of happiness.' I dare you to go find them! It was a really cool lesson though.

I really want to share with you what Elder Dafayo, the Area 70 from Italy, shared with us in Stake Conference on Sunday. It was a beautiful message. He related 2 New testament stories. 1) Christ  raising the daughter of Jairus and 2) Christ raising Lazarus from the dead. He compared these stories to the many lost sheep in the world, specifically less-active and inactive members. Christ, when he approaches the scene where the daughter of Jairus has just died says,"She is not dead, she is sleeping." What was impossible for everyone else is not impossible for Him. Similarly, with Lazarus, it was 4 days until Christ brought him back. No matter how long someone has been away from the church, and no matter what others say, they are not dead, they are just sleeping!! Nothing is impossible when Christ is in the picture. These brothers and sisters who have been separated from the church can come back! We just have to realize first that they are just sleeping!

I love this work. I know the Lord will sustain us as we put our best efforts into building His kingdom! I am so grateful for Heavenly Fathers continued patience and love. As well as yours, family and friends. I love you!

We found some magical mo-ams on the street when we were really hungry :)

It's Summer!

This week has been such a good one. There are far too many miracles that have happened for me to even recount!
So, my game plan is to give a play by play of each day and hope I don't run out of time!

Monday= We taught DJ about the sacrament. He is really starting to understand more.Which is good. He's so funny in the lessons as well. We had S5 go to the YSA home evening for the first time, so we went with her. She really enjoyed it! Its amazing how being around a good group of people can really lift you to a higher level.

Tuesday= Tuesday was a good day. Nothing too crazy happened it was just all around nice. We had a dinner appointment with a wonderful older couple and they invited a few other random members around too. We also had a crazy lesson with T6 on Tuesday. He really loves the Book of Mormon, but we are struggling to help him understand that Joseph Smith is a prophet and that he is not a reincarnation of anyone else. Funny right?? I never thought I'd be trying to resolve that concern!

Wednesday= Zone Meeting (which was really good), a few wonderful lessons, and a dinner appointment with a really cool family! On Wednesday my bike broke though.... like horribly broke, so we spent the rest of the week on foot, walking A LOT. Like pioneer status. It was good fun though!

Thursday= We taught this really cool new investigator Y on Thursday morning. He has been having some pretty serious family problems lately. He is from China but has been in England for 10 years. It was a very sweet lesson. He got really emotional, and we talked about prayer and about Jesus Christ. I was really toughed by this humble man, who is truly seeking what the gospel can provide for him. He really helped me put my own personal struggles into perspective. We had some other cool appointments lined up too.

Friday and Saturday were my favorite days. We were just so busy we were running around everywhere! The highlight of Friday was our first lesson with P3. He is from Nigeria and is getting his Masters here in the UK in Machanoelectric Engineering. The lesson was amazing! As we shared the first vision the Spirit was there so powerfully. When we introduced the Book of Mormon I could tell he really really wanted to read it. He has incredible faith in Christ and he is SO AMAZING! As we were asking him how he felt about the message of the restoration, he said, 'I believe it. I do not need to see God and Jesus Christ to believe." WHAT FAITH! P3 is truly amazing!
Saturday was busy as well and we taught several new people. The weather was absolutely gorgeous and everyone was out and about. We taught in the park, and has some really good lessons. F, from Hungary received the message of the restoration really well and just like P3, was full of great faith in the Savior. We stopped to eat lunch at a Chinese takeaway place, and we bumped into a potential investigator there, so we sat down and ate lunch with him. He is from India (I thought of you dad, and when you went to India) and Hindu. He was really nice and cool. He had just dropped his wife and son off at the airport to go home for a wedding, but when they get back he said he would really like to have us over for dinner so we can meet his wife and son.

All in all it's been a really good week! The weather is BEAUTIFUL, the work is moving forward at a rapid pace and there are many good things happening. I wish I could include everything that has happened this week, but there's always just so little time!!

Throughout my experiences this week and through working with some investigators, my testimony of the nature of God the Father and Jesus Christ have really been strengthened, as well as my testimony of the first vision. I am so grateful for the correct understanding we have of the Godhead. It truly is a blessing my my life! In 1 Corinthians 8:6 there is a beautiful scripture which I learned much from. Here it is!" But to us there is but one God, the Father  of whom are all things, and we in him; and one Lord Jesus Christ, by whom are all things, and we by him."

Here are some pictures for the week:

T6 made us food this week. It was KIDNEY. I ate a full plate of really really spicy kidney. I was pretty proud of myself. I just tried not to focus on what the kidney does and pretend I was eating chicken :)
Sister Curtis and I after we taught P3, HAPPY!
Our delicious ice cream from the ice cream man. It was 25 degrees (Celsius) on Saturday. Crazy stuff!
The swans in the canal. look how many of them there are!

LOVE YOU so much family! :)

I Can't Believe it!

I cannot believe that I got to Skype you and see your wonderful smiling faces less than 24 hours ago! Its just so crazy. It was so good to talk to you though. Sorry if I was a little awkward... I'm just an awkward missionary now after all :P In all honesty though, I am so grateful to have such a wonderful family backing me up! You've all been nothing but wonderful.

This week went by so fast, I honestly don't know what happened to time. Next week is transfers already because it is a 5 week transfer. There is still so much to be done!

Some funny stories from this week:
-Our investigator, DJ prayed for the first time this week. He prayed for our safety on the bikes, and 20 minutes later Sister Curtis got hit by a car... ironic? :)
- Today, we got to go to Birdland (some very kind members took us) and it was so fun! We got to see/feed all sorts of different birds. They were mostly parrots, macaws and amazons from all over the world. It was good fun, and it was nice to get out of the city and do something a little different! I had two birds fight on my head... I almost curled up on the floor, but luckily the member we were with saved the day and took one of the birds away!
- The other change this week? Me eating a low fat diet.... that's a funny story in and of itself. My companion is on a low fat diet now after last week's hospital stay so I'm doing it with her. I'm not NEARLY as diligent as she is though (mostly because I don't have to be), but its been hard!!

The work is going well. DJ, T6, S5 and R4 are doing well. They are slowly and surely understanding the message of the restoration. The big thing we are working on with them now is the commandments!

This week will be a good one, we are going to work really really hard and get some new really solid investigators and help the people we are already teaching! I LOVE being a missionary. Its the best!

Me holding a bird on my arm. The birds there were beautiful!

Sister Curtis and I with our 'pet' parrot. Good fun. I look like a pirate, right? With a bird on my shoulder?

Love you!

The Atonement

Hi family!

Glad everyone is doing well. its Hard to believe the school year is coming to a close again. Crazy!
Firstly, I will email you tomorrow (with permission) to tell you what time we will be skyping home at, and I will make sure it is not 1 MST. Due to a serious of unfortunate events (which I will explain later) we weren't able to arrange on Sunday who we were going to Skype with.

Secondly, The reason the Atonement is the title for my email is because I have seen the atonement working all around me this week in my life and the life of our investigators. It is a very real power of hope and healing. The video link below is an amazing video about Christ! It was a big deal around Easter I hear, but I forgot to send the link, so here it is. It's amazing!

Everyone, no matter what walk of life they are in has a need for the atonement in their life.

DJ is doing really good. We've met with him everyday this week and we have really seen his faith and understanding grow. He still has a lot to learn and comprehend about the gospel, but what he does know is good. The Spirit is always there when we teach him, and I know he knows that the gospel is a good thing in his life. He called us on Tuesday night after we met with him and said he'd found his church. We look forward to seeing him progress even more. He enjoyed church this Sunday again, and sat with a member family he's getting to know.

S5 came to church again and she is praying to Heavenly Father and is reading the Book of Mormon. Hooray! She's ready to set her life in order, which is pretty amazing.

T6 is doing well. We're still trying to sort out some of what he believes in, but he feels the Spirit and had a dream that he needed to be baptized, so that's pretty cool! He also wrote a 3 page testimony of what he believed for us- that was pretty cool too. Its nice to see investigators that are committed and are thinking about the things they are learning.

The end of the week was pretty crazy because Sister Curtis was in the hospital for 36 hours while they were trying to figure out what was wrong her. She's out and good to go now though, so that was a blessing! I'm grateful for the chance to be serving as a missionary though!

No pictures this week, but I promise I'll send some next week!

Love you family! Sorry this email is so short... only had an hour to email because of bank holiday and the hospital.

Talk to you on Sunday,
Sister Roscher
